Ken Jaeger brings over 25 years of operational experience in the senior living industry, including successful startups, acquisitions, turnaround of distressed properties and multi-site leadership. The foundation of Ken’s leadership is his ability to lead his teams to profitability while providing outstanding quality care. Currently he serves as CEO and President of MorningStar Senior Living, a company he founded in 2003 which currently operates a portfolio of over 20 communities in seven states. Earlier in his senior living career, Ken held executive level positions where he was responsible for operating 50 communities in the western United States. Matthew Turner, Managing Partner
Matt Turner joined MorningStar Senior Living in 2009 as Chief Financial & Development Officer, a position he held until 2016. Ken and Matt share a passion for service to seniors and to underprivileged populations throughout the world, and their complimentary skills have helped propel MorningStar to national prominence as an integrated developer, owner and operator of first-class senior living. In 2011, Matt formed Ovation, MorningStar’s affiliated real estate investment and development company. Matt’s earlier career included investment and corporate finance positions for Black Creek Group, a multi-billion dollar real estate private equity firm based in Denver, Colorado. Matt began his career in tax strategy and consulting at Deloitte & Touche and Arthur Andersen. He is a certified public accountant (inactive) and completed undergraduate and graduate studies in accounting and business.
Matt is a frequent speaker and contributor for industry events and publications. He is a past board member of LeadingAge Colorado, a graduate of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation’s Leadership Denver program and a past member of its finance committee. Matt is a member of the Advisory Board for the Alliance for Choice in Education (ACE) and he is actively involved in several other non-profits and mission organizations both at home and abroad.
Kimberly Erickson, Chief Operating Officer
Drawn to Ken’s mission of honoring God, valuing seniors, and investing in team members, Kimberly joined MorningStar in 2010 after working for a national senior housing provider. Her first MorningStar role as an Executive Director gave her insight into the operations of the company, while fulfilling her lifelong passion for serving seniors. With over 20 years in the senior living industry, Kimberly knows what it’s like to honor and support the front line, having started as a nursing assistant in college. Now, as COO, Kimberly’s mission is to build a company based on the creating of teams with servant-hearts. “While business acumen is important, we can teach that. What can’t be taught is Love, Kindness, Goodness, Fairness, Honesty and Respect, and a true passion to care for our residents. These are our core values. We hire people who naturally live, breathe, and exude values like ours. We know if we take care of our team members, they’ll take care of our residents,” states Kimberly. When not at work, you’ll find her enjoying the great outdoors of Colorado with her husband and two young children.
Jamie Ranzan, Chief Financial Officer
Raised in Southern California, Jamie Ranzan enthusiastically relocated to Colorado in 2016 to join MorningStar’s mission of honoring God in our business practices and relationships, eager to be part of a company whose core values aligned with her own.
Jamie is quick to credit her grandparents for the formation of her character. From these beloved seniors did she discover a greater calling, far beyond spreadsheets and numbers, to serve with passion and compassion. Through Grandmother Jane’s 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s, Jamie knows keenly how devastating this disease is to the entire family. Not a day goes by in which she doesn’t draw inspiration from the amazing soul who was (and is) Jane Riley.
Jamie began her career as an auditor in the real estate group of Ernst & Young. In those early years, she worked in various aspects of the real estate industry: residential, development, land acquisitions and senior living. In finding senior living, Jamie found her passion, an industry in which she could fully invest her skills to improve the lives of seniors. At KBS Realty Advisors in Newport Beach, she helped manage $1.8B in assets across the United States. Before joining MorningStar, Jamie was CFO/VP of Corporate Finance for a senior living company in Southern Cal, responsible for all matters concerning accounting, finance, insurance, tax and compliance.
Jamie holds a degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance from Chapman University, and is currently finishing her MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu. She and her husband spend their time skiing and exploring the outdoors with their two young children.
Mindy Whitworth, Vice President of Sales
As Vice President of Sales, Mindy Whitworth is responsible for all sales activity across the MorningStar portfolio. Mindy is a strategic sales and marketing professional with over 20 years of successful experience in business development and implementation of national sales and marketing strategies. Mindy leads by example and has consistently met or exceeded planned sales objectives for performing and non-performing assets. Prior to joining MorningStar, Mindy was Corporate Director of Sales & Marketing for Bethesda Senior Living, a faith-based senior housing operator, where she oversaw all sales and marketing activity for 19 communities across six states. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas.
Lorna Lee, Vice President of Marketing & Communications
At MorningStar, we have the privilege of Elevating Life for those who taught the rest of us how to live. As our VP of Marketing & Communications in 2012, Lorna Lee has contributed to that worthy cause in two primary ways. First, Lorna serves as a Megaphone—amplifying our mission, and advancing the culture it inspires, across all the touchpoints of brand awareness. There are so many amazing relational moments that happen under our roof. So many stories that need to be told. Lorna’s charge (and pleasure) is to ensure they’re communicated widely, and with honesty and creativity. She also serves as a Tuning Fork, helping MorningStar communities sing with the same Voice—and present the same clear and consistent message: that MorningStar is eager to meet families at their point of need with compassionate care and service excellence. Lorna and her husband, Steve, have two grown sons and have made a life together in Colorado since 1991.
