Parker Assisted Living by MorningStar named “Leader in Dementia Care” by Alzheimer’s Association
To help families research memory care communities, the Alzheimer’s Association established a program called “Recognized Leaders in Dementia Care.” To be so designated, a senior living community is required to enroll 75% of its staff in an eight-hour training that encompasses brain pathology, communication techniques, and methods of lessening agitation with non-pharmaceuticals. Colorado is the only Alzheimer’s Association chapter in the country offering this special program. Parker Assisted Living by MorningStar is proud to have earned this special recognition of our expertise in serving the memory-impaired, with 95% of our staff thus trained. Go and – Learn More.
Parker Assisted Living by MorningStar is proud to be the first assisted living community in Colorado to offer technology that enables those with hearing aids to receive audio directly to their instruments without reverberation or background noise.
Installed in our Activities Room and Theatre/Chapel, this “hearing loop” will greatly improve our residents’ ability to understand and participate. The system provides the clearest, cleanest sound imaginable, yet does not require a headset, as it works with the T-Coil (or Telecoil) with which most hearing aids are equipped.
A T-coil is a tiny wireless receiver inside hearing aids, accessible via the programming button. Consult your audiologist to confirm it has been activated. You will be amazed at its effect.
For those without hearing aids or T-coils in their aids, headsets are available to help them hear through the loop.
Lisa Jensen: Called to Serve in Life Enrichment
“A definite calling from God.” That’s how Nebraskan native, Lisa Jensen, describes her work with seniors. “It was six years ago. I was taking a walk, praying as I went, asking God where He would have me be.”
Without question, the path led straight to senior living. Up to that point, Lisa’s work had centered on children and the hospitality industry. But immediately upon walking into her first senior community, she thought: “This is it. I don’t even need to be paid. I’ll pour coffee for these folks just to be here with them.”
Serving first as concierge, Lisa’s winning personality quickly placed her as Life Enrichment Director. She loved making her team of ten feel as valued as the residents themselves.
“Now, coming to MorningStar, I feel like I’ve come full circle,” says Lisa, “back again to a community with (soon) all three neighborhoods in which to serve. And here, I’m free to pray at lunch. What could be better!”
With a degree in geography, Lisa is quick to bring maps into any activity. Of course, our residents meet her toe to toe, being themselves so well traveled. Together, they criss-cross the globe, challenging each other on places and spaces of fascinating interest.
In our Reflections neighborhood, you’ll find Lisa loving to connect with our ladies and gents through easy, meandering conversation. “I play whatever role they want me to, in the moment. Sometimes they just want to hold hands. Sometimes, we need a change of scenery.” Lisa gets emotional just thinking about the privilege of serving seniors, about how honoring it is for families to trust her with their precious moms and dads.
“The heart and soul of Life Enrichment for me is music. Music, dancing, all intergenerational! It’s amazing how that kind of atmosphere affects everyone.”
Lisa continues, “I can’t wait for the new (IL/AL) building to open. I can envision the place brimming with life: seminars, concerts and town meetings. Even more, I love, love, love the thought of lots of small clusters of folks everywhere, chatting, working, reading. Community!”
She’s eager to see the aquatic center busy with water aerobics, a place where entire families can gather and exercise together.
Here’s the final word from Lisa: “Parker Senior Living will be the absolute gem of Parker, the place where the entire town will want to gather and linger.”
When the time is right, allow us to share with you our passion for serving seniors.
