Dementia Care

Dementia Care Offered with Understanding And Love

Dementia Care
The word “dementia” strikes fear in any heart.  While many joke of “senior moments” (temporary lapses in memory that are a natural part of the aging process), a true diagnosis of dementia ushers families onto an entirely different path.

At MorningStar, it is our highest privilege and honor to walk alongside families, wherever they are on this path, easing their stress and mending their hearts, as they dare to look squarely into the face of dementia.  To begin your education, let’s begin by clarifying terms.  Dementia Care is a phrase used to encompass the umbrella of services offered in small group homes and larger senior communities especially for those with a diagnosis of dementia.  Alzheimer’s Care is a more narrow slice of that service especially for those with Alzheimer’s disease, the most commonly known and contracted form of dementia.  Memory Care, on the other hand, can be thought of as synonymous with Dementia Care, a highly skilled service extended to anyone with memory impairment.

In MorningStar’s Reflections Neighborhood we handle dementia care with professionalism and respect for each resident.  What we offer, how we communicate and how we touch lives is all marked with dignity, love and a deep compassion for each resident.

MorningStar offers our special residents:

• Graciously appointed suites ready for the resident’s own furnishings
• Well-designed, beautifully decorated common rooms and outdoor areas
• A highly trained staff who specialize in therapeutic approaches to care
• WellStar, our preventative wellness program, which includes health monitoring
• Assistance with meals prepared by an Executive Chef
• Recreational and purposeful activities
• Outings and special events
• Pet-friendly community

Dementia Care is Personalized at MorningStar

The teams at our communities take great joy in living out MorningStar’s mission to “value all seniors as gifted and contributing individuals.” In fact, we go far beyond: we purely love our residents, love ‘em like we do our own moms and dads.

The most tender care we offer is that found in Reflections, our memory care neighborhoods.  While a clinical view of dementia care is to just manage symptoms and behaviors, often with a heavy reliance on medications, MorningStar’s approach is distinctly different.

Our care is distinguished by using alternative natural therapies whenever possible, having witnessed so many situations when residents blossom after eliminating (or at least reducing) drug intake.  The replacement medicine: patience, attention—and much love.

Everything about our care is personalized, made so by studying each resident’s unique history, vocation, talents and preferences, then crafting a routine that is at once calming and engaging.  That’s the true definition of resident-directed care, keeping each person as much in control of his own life and decisions as possible.

Whatever the extent of memory loss, a person’s essence remains.  Perhaps hidden.  But there.  Our responsibility—our privilege—at MorningStar is to find ways to connect with that essence.  And draw it out.

At MorningStar Senior Living, we represent the very best in senior living with our unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.”  With a foundation built on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve, we strive to create a true home for residents amid a beautiful, serene setting.  We encourage you to contact us to learn more about our compassionate approach to dementia care.

MorningStar communities are private pay.
