Assisted Living Care Services – A Holistic View of Health
Wellness is a holistic strength, a self-responsibility ultimately, a dynamic process of change and growth that optimizes every dimension of the human experience. Consider us your partners in that vital work.
At MorningStar, we define health and well-being holistically, offering assisted living dining experience and programming that supports the whole person: body, mind and spirit. As such, Wellness becomes a joint effort between Life Enrichment and our Wellness Care Team, all playing critical roles in making MorningStar the destination for successful aging.
Our scope of resident care is reflective of the full authority of our license through the Department of Health, extending the stay of residents even as health conditions change.
We work hard to be a breath of fresh air, looking for creative solutions that yield higher quality of care at a lower cost to families.
Electronic Health Records
MorningStar is proud to set the pace within the Assisted Living sector with our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, a central, mobile solution for assessments, care planning, incident tracking, wound care, behavior management and eMARs (electronic medication administration records). The benefits for both team and residents are diverse:
- Accurate, legible and complete demographic and medical information
- Quick yet secure access to health records for more coordinated, efficient care
- Ability to monitor key health metrics such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, body temperature, and oxygen levels.
- Legible documentation
- Enhanced privacy and security of resident data
With the heightened productivity realized by this point-of-care charting and clinical intelligence, we are free to devote more time to resident-centered care and activities.
In Assisted Living, our Care Levels are determined through a simple point system which takes into account the cost and time of providing each service such as, grooming, bathing, ambulation and medical assistance. The cumulative score determines the level of care. Resulting in an individualized service plans offering the right amount of assistance needed.
Respite care is a short-term stay in a MorningStar Senior Living community. It is often recommended for seniors who are recovering from hospitalization or other healthcare issues as well as affording an opportunity to experience community living. It can also be a benefit for a caregiver who needs a well-deserved vacation or a break from the stresses of caregiving.
Respite services are available for a variety of care levels in both assisted living and memory care.
Hospice services are designed to give supportive care to individuals in the final phase of a terminal illness. The goal is to enable residents to be comfortable and free of pain, so that they live each day as fully as possible. Our dedicated Wellness Team collaborates with the hospice provider of choice allowing the Resident and family to focus on comfort and quality of life.
Assisted Living Care Services include Home Health and Out-Patient Therapy
Home health and out-patient therapy provide supportive services to current Residents who reside in our communities. For individuals who need continence support, we exclusively offer the excellent products of Prevail, delivered conveniently and discreetly, and fitted for confidence, independence and wellness.
A story from one of our Wellness Directors, illustrative of the heroic lives we touch, and the effect wrought upon our own lives.
Resident Bob, a WWII veteran, was always glad to see me when I stopped by, eager to share some of his life. One night he seemed more contemplative than usual. He didn’t have the typical jokes or family stories. Instead he wanted to talk about his Army career, more specifically his time as a prisoner of war. At the time, he was one of the last Iowans alive who survived the Bataan Death March of WWII. He sat there for what seemed hours, telling me of that horrific experience and what he had to do to stay alive. I told him his family must be awfully proud of him for overcoming. He was quiet for a while, then offered, “They don’t know.” “What?,” I asked, “Why would you share this with me not them?” He replied he wasn’t sure if they would understand, but that I…I was safe, there to listen and there to understand. Grateful for the compliment, yet I urged him to tell his family. Mere days later I entered his room to find his wife and son, gathering his belongings. Bob had passed away. With tears and tender hugs for me, the son said, “My father spoke of you often. He also told us of his experience during WWII, crediting you as the reason he was finally able to share. Dad died this evening and looked more at peace than I have ever seen him and we thank you for that.” Bob will ever be a part of me and my life as a nurse.
