Memory Care from the Dementia Experts: Under a “Lavender Sky”
At MorningStar at Englefield Green, we feel it is our calling—our privilege—to serve our most tender seniors, to provide the type of care that affirms their dignity and value. We also differ from other senior living communities in that our community was purpose-built to encourage and support a resident’s right to choice and independence to the fully extent possible.
As dementia care experts, our unique philosophy and approach to memory care is encompassed under the possibilities we call “Lavender Sky,” in which we compassionately choose to thoughtfully enter, embrace, and explore. By leveraging the power of music, dance, art, aromatherapy, and animals, we comfort and heal, and have proudly created a community that feels like a true home.
Once a family makes the decision to entrust Englefield Green with the care of their loved one, we meet with them to learn as much as we can about the individual’s background, talents, interests and personal preferences (to know me is to love me). All residents participate in a range of purposeful and meaningful activities and engage in specials events and outings.

Glimpses of the Heart
Even through health problems, my grandmother kept her tender smile and continued—with
great joy—to cook for big crowds (five daughters and 12 grands!). It’s because of her and Grandpa that my sister (Suzanne, ED at MorningStar at Bear Creek) and I have so much love and compassion for seniors. I only wish my grandparents could have experienced what the residents of MorningStar do. I know I’m living out my calling when they sing out, “I love you,” each night as I go home. I am part of their family!

My dad had Lou Gerhig’s Disease (ALS) and was paralyzed from the neck down. While I was still
in utero, doctors predicted he would not live to see my birth. Dad lived for 25 more years! As the sole provider, Mom worked long hours and multiple jobs, yet we kept Dad home and cared for him ourselves. I can remember assisting with all of his activities of daily living from a young age, mastering the art of a hoyer lift by the age of 5. Caring for seniors allows me to continue my passion for compassion.

The first senior with whom I had a special bond was my neighbor, Marj. As a young child, I would oftenRead more
wander off to Marj’s house. She was a warm, friendly, compassionate soul, who validated me for who I was, and treasured me as an individual. And now I represent MorningStar, a company distinguishes by its focus, purpose and values, placing relationships above everything else.
