Glimpses of the Heart
Nonni was the most amazing grandmother anyone could ever have, and not only because
of her Italian cooking. She influenced me in so many ways as my best friend and best teacher of life’s lessons. In her last years, she struggled with Alzheimer’s, by which I became a passionate advocate for all those living with dementia. Seniors have built our country, our very world. The best lessons life has to offer us have been brought forward by them, generation by generation. Their contributions are indescribable.
The first seniors I came to know and love were my grandparents. Visits to their house when I
was a little girl were a comforting and highly anticipated weekly visit of mine and my siblings. As I grew into a young woman I was able to truly appreciate their generation and the qualities they had instilled into me over the years. Their stories of trials and tribulations, and their unwavering optimistic outlook on life, were nothing short of fascinating to me.
Dir, Community Relations
I grew up on the family farm with great grandparents and grandparents as neighbors.
My grandmother “Bama” was my world; the most graceful, humble person I have ever met. She was the embodiment of love and compassion. What I now cherish about MorningStar is our mission, which exemplifies the values and morals I was taught as a child. The residents here are my family. I’m blessed to be able to love on them every day. Working with seniors is my calling—my heart—what I was born to do on this planet.

“How very good our family feels about our mom and her future at MorningStar. We realize how well you all know Mom—you really know her! That, in itself, is most comforting. You are exceptional people who obviously care about the incredible work you do every day to make the dear residents at MorningStar comfortable. We are your biggest fans.”
“When faced with a more than difficult situation, some people are better at solutions than others. Some are smarter than others. Some have a natural talent for problem-solving…and some are just compassionate people! The staff at MorningStar of Albuquerque are extremely polite and helpful…consistently working beyond the call.” (Court-appointed Conservator)

“The journey of uprooting parents from their home of 60 years is challenging. But MorningStar has embraced our parents. Staff members from every discipline know our parents and their personal preferences. All have unique caring touches. All go out of their way to make our parents’ new home feel like home. The staff also nurture us. They know all of us by name and treat us so warmly. What began as an emotional journey is now emotional relief…our parents are where they need to be.”
“How can I thank you all for making mother’s final months so comfortable and happy? We could not have found a better place for her to live our her remaining time on this earth. She too said many times how happy she was at MorningStar. I just wish we could have moved her sooner so she could enjoy it in better health. We all came to love your all very much, and I’ll be stopping in for visits! Much love.”
“Our family thanks the MorningStar team for the selfless and loving care you provided Mom. The entire staff always showed professionalism, yet it was clear that everyone sees their jobs as more than a paycheck; it is a commitment to the comfort and well-being of residents. The concierges were always bright, cheery and friendly. The management team always there to support, including just sitting with Mom when she needed a friend.”
“How very comfortable we are in our home and with our MorningStar family! The decision to move wasn’t easy for it seemed that our years of adventure were coming to an end. But no! We can look out at the beautiful Sandias, share our lives with interesting people, and never fret about a clean house, the yard work or home maintenance. We are secure in the knowledge that if we need help, it’s available 24/7 from kind, loving and qualified people.”
“Your staff at MorningStar of Albuquerque are so warm and comforting. None are too busy to answer a question or get something we need. The care and concern they show Mom, and the peace of mind they give our family cannot be put into words.”
