The first senior I loved was my next door neighbor, known to me as Grandma Bonnie. I always felt a special connection with Bonnie because she chose to love me and invited me into her life. My first job in senior care was as a dietary aide; from 16 years old, I was hooked. Genuine connections with seniors, fostered on love and respect, have always filled my cup. I was attracted to MorningStar because of their core values. While many companies state that they put residents above all else, rarely do you see it put into action the way that MorningStar does.
The first senior I ever loved was Grandpa Marv. Despite multiple and difficult surgeries for cancer, he kept a bright outlook. He baked pastries and bread for the doctors who saved his life, a time during which he taught me his baking secrets. The time we shared in the kitchen are my fondest memories. Seniors have taught me how short life is and not to take anything for granted. Everyone needs to be seen. You never know what someone is going through, so a kind word or smile can go a long way. I feel proud to be a part of a company that prioritizes relationships first.
The first senior I ever loved was Grandma Thelma. I felt unconditional love and a special bond with Gram, helping her around the house, going out for ice cream and spending the night. At 18 I was volunteering at a senior community in New York where my Mom worked. The experience inspired me to pursue a career in senior living. I have learned so much by listening to their interesting stories. They have taught me about love, respect, perseverance, patience and to always do your best. I was attracted to MorningStar because their core values and mission align with mine. Grateful to be working for a faith-based company.
