- ExitDyan SummerellExecutive DirectorMy grandmother, Mary, was the quintessential Italian grandmother. At 4’10”. Nana would make pastries and pasta, all the while smiling and laughing and urging me to “eat, eat, eat”! She lived to 104 and was the light of my life. The seniors I serve today teach me to be patient, humble, grateful and to cherish the moment, for it all flashes by too fast. I was strongly drawn to MorningStar by its culture, values and philanthropy. I am at home here to a degree I have never felt in previous professional positions.
- ExitIrma ArreolaWellness DirectorMy love for seniors comes from Grandpa Loreto and Grandma Simona. Grandfather was a pastor and "Mona" is a prayer warrior and backbone of our family. She could always be found in the early mornings on her knees beside her bed with a blanket over her shoulders, mentioning everyone's name in prayer. Seniors are a population that have so much to offer. By their eventful lives, full of hills and valleys, they can share wisdom and guidance, having likely experienced whatever you may be going through. I admire MorningStar for unashamedly keeping God at the forefront of their values.
- ExitChristopher GironDir Community RelationsThe first senior I’ve ever loved is my dear grandmother Rosa. She has visited California annually to spend time with all of her grandchildren. Abue Rose is the first person to consistently teach me about faith in God and unconditional love through acts of service and daily prayer. Working for seniors has been the most gratifying job I’ve had in my career. Our seniors sacrificed a lot to pave the way for generations. From seniors I learn to live more lightheartedly, and to set time to nurture relationships and make memories.
