CALA Honors Kevin Taliaferro as
Outstanding Executive Director

SACRAMENTO, CA (November 12, 2024) – The California Assisted Living Association (CALA) recognized Kevin Taliaferro, executive director at MorningStar of Pasadena, with the Outstanding Executive Director Award during an Awards Celebration Luncheon held on Nov. 6 at Elevate: CALA’s Fall Conference & Trade Show in Palm Springs.
Kevin’s leadership is defined by his deep commitment to fostering a community where both residents and staff feel genuinely valued and supported, making him a pillar of excellence within the MorningStar family. Kevin’s approach to leadership is both personal and inclusive, ensuring that every resident, regardless of physical or cognitive limitations, feels a true sense of belonging.
Equally impressive is the impact Kevin has on his team. One medication technician shared that, despite having multiple job offers, it was the connection with Kevin that made MorningStar the clear choice. This speaks volumes about Kevin’s ability to build a team that feels connected and committed to the community’s mission.
Kevin’s leadership is rooted in personal and professional development, surrounding himself with capable individuals who challenge each other to grow. He takes a hands-on approach to mentoring, providing his team with the guidance, training, and opportunities necessary to sharpen their skills and overcome challenges. His genuine interest in seeing his team succeed creates a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Kevin is known for rolling up his sleeves to assist wherever needed, whether it’s planning staff outings or being present at every community event, even on his days off. “Kevin Taliaferro embodies the essence of exceptional leadership,” said CALA President and CEO Sally Michael. “His ability to uplift both residents and staff, while driving community success, is truly inspirational. CALA is honored to recognize Kevin for his outstanding contributions.”
